Good morning, Brighton. Ok ok, calling it a heatwave may be a stretch, but we're in for five days of sunshine so enjoy it whilst it lasts. Brighton Cocktail Festival is also in full swing for the next week so why not grab a ticket and sample a few concoctions whilst supporting our local watering holes.

🚂 Fancy a proper shiver this Halloween? A long-abandoned tunnel beneath Brighton station is finally getting its theatrical debut, hosting Hydrocracker Theatre Company's immersive take on Dickens' ghostly classic The Signalman, running 15th October to 8th November. Limited Tickets Remaining.

Oliver Clayton (fresh off Mischief Theatre's The Play That Goes Wrong) takes the title role, while Hydrocracker's own Jem Wall — no stranger to grand stages like the RSC and Shakespeare's Globe — plays the mysterious Visitor.

This chilling adaptation, originally penned by Jonathan Holloway for BBC Radio 4's Christmas Day broadcast, gets directed by award-nominated Nathan Crossan-Smith, with eerie sound design from Matt Huxley. Fittingly, it's backed by funds celebrating 200 years of the railway. Tunnel vision never looked so good!

🐾 Blakers Park dog-free Public Space Protection Order that had been in place for decades until 2025 is set to be reinstated by Brighton and Hove Council. On Friday BHCC voted to reinstate the dog free area in Blakers Park after many campaigned and signed a petition to have this reviewed. It’s great news for local families to have back a section of the park for picnics and play without the worry of dogs. BHCC meeting minutes available.

Caught short in Brighton & Hove? Relief is at hand! The council has teamed up with the Where to Wee app, mapping over 50 loos across the city — from council facilities to the Royal Pavilion, museums, the hospital, Brighton Marina, and friendly pubs and cafes happy to lend a hand (or throne).

The free app dishes out opening times, accessibility details, baby-changing info and handy directions, so nobody's left doing the dreaded toilet dance.

Councillor Tim Rowkins says it builds on 14 refurbished council loos, with more partnerships planned across transport hubs, libraries and health services. Uniqlo is eyeing up a new store in the city! The Japanese basics giant has lodged plans to move into the old H&M spot at Churchill Square's Western Road frontage, right by the eastern entrance, snapping up both floors H&M left behind when it shuffled a few doors down into the former Topshop unit. The application is refreshingly modest: just new signage and a shopfront revamp, with branding dotted across the façade, the corner rotunda, and above the main entrance.

Currently London hogs all the Uniqlo love (26 stores, none south of the capital), so this would be a coastal first. If it goes ahead, every unit on that stretch will be occupied, the first time since Topshop's 2020 collapse — happy days for Churchill Square!
