Good morning, Brighton. Hope you’re up and out early to make the most of today’s cooler conditions (25) before we creep into the 30’s again for Thursday & Friday. Heatwave number 5 on it’s way according to our friends at the Met Office. But then they have got it wrong before! What’s the Scoop
Brighton Loses a Beloved Icon as Charles Street Tap Closes
🍻 After 25 years of pride, passion, and pints, Brighton's Charles Street Tap is calling time. General manager Chris Marshall announced yesterday that the iconic LGBTQIA+ venue will shutter mid-September when the lease expires.
Marshall's heartfelt statement honoured the bar as a "safe space" and beating heart of the community, crediting the incredible team - especially deputy Ed Stocker (22 years!) and legendary drag mother Dame Sally Vate (18 years) - for making magic happen nightly.
The venue hosted cabaret, DJs, and rising stars through The Great Escape festival. While the final date isn't set, the loss stings. Marshall reflected: "It's so much more than where I work. It is my home." Read Full Announcement
Dolphins Make a Splash on the Sussex Coast
🐬 A lucky beachgoer captured bottlenose dolphins cruising from Worthing to Littlehampton—and apparently they brought pals along for the ride. James Whisson's social media footage (watch video of dolphins) caught the attention of the Sussex Dolphin Project, who rely on community sightings to track these marine celebrities.
The organisation uses resident reports to tag individual dolphins, study their behaviour, and map breeding grounds. Managing director Thea Taylor emphasises: community intel is gold. Without social media sleuths spotting and tagging posts, these sightings vanish into the blue.
Peak dolphin season runs May to September, with summer bringing multiple sightings daily. Fair warning though: keep 100m distance. If dolphins fancy a closer look, slow your boat and hold course—let them decide the dance moves.

Brighton's Sauna Scene Gets a Steamy Upgrade

🥵 Brighton's beachfront wellness hub just got the green light for a little extra heat. Luna Hut secured planning approval to add a second sauna next to its existing one at the entrance to Sea Lanes.
The proposal? A compact, temporary structure powered by electric stove vibes, designed to match its twin. Residents are absolutely here for it, with 23 letters of support flooding in. Fans reckon it's a "fantastic business and huge asset," perfect for expanding the community feel along Madeira Drive.
Just two objections emerged—concerns about overdevelopment and claims other saunas exist nearby. But the council wasn't deterred. Approved July 31st, this twin sauna setup aims to boost year-round beach wellness offerings.
