Dolphins spotted around Brighton & Artists Push for Transformation of Railway Arches by i360.
Good morning, Brighton…. so much happening the last few weeks in Brighton we’ve been catching up. Parks are looking particularly brown too for this early in July.
In today’s Brighton Scoop:
Dolphins Spotted Around Brighton & Newhaven
“Underneath the Arches”

What’s the Scoop
Dolphins Spotted Around Brighton & Newhaven
🐬 In the last week, multiple dolphin sightings were reported off the Sussex coast, notably a group of over 15 bottlenose dolphins spotted by John Simcock near Seaford and Newhaven on June 25. Simcock captured impressive footage of the pod, including a calf.
Additionally, around 20 dolphins were observed near Brighton Palace Pier by Kurt Lander. The Sussex Dolphin Project urges the public to submit sightings via their website to help identify and study dolphin behavior, movement, prey, and breeding sites. The project aims to create a sightings network across Sussex to enhance understanding of these marine mammals.
Artists Push for Transformation of Railway Arch
🎨 Brighton artists, led by Mid Street Lab, are transforming disused railway arches by the i360 into The Arches Vault, a new arts space for exhibitions, ethical sales, and cultural production. Founded by Jean Wachter, Mid Street Lab supports diverse artists and aims to create a space reflecting Brighton's culture. The Vault will showcase art, host events, and ensure accessibility. Creative Director Pacheanne Handerson focuses on fostering experimentation and dialogue. With partnerships from Brighton Dome and Sussex University, they aim to raise £6,000 in ten days to secure the lease. Support the initiative at www.midstreetlab.com.
