What’s the Scoop
One million milestone for Beryl Bikes
🚲 B&H’s Beryl Bikes have hit one million journeys as of March, just a year after the scheme relaunched in 2023. More than 129,000 riders have clocked up over 2.8 million kilometres – about seven trips to the moon – using a fleet of 750 pedal and e-bikes at 100+ hubs across the city. Download App
The most popular spots are along the seafront, including Palace Pier, Brighton Marina and Madeira Drive. Councillor Trevor Muten says the bikes have replaced thousands of car trips, cutting congestion, improving air quality and boosting riders’ physical and mental health. Beryl’s CEO Philip Ellis calls the millionth ride proof that people embrace green transport when it’s reliable and convenient. If you haven’t embraced the Beryl Bikes yet, download the app and hop on. How it works
Fatboy Slim joins RNLI fundraisers in town
🛟 Our fellow resident and superstar DJ spent three hours with the RNLI fundraising team outside Churchill Square, chatting to shoppers and encouraging support for the charity’s volunteer crews. He helped the team share information about sea safety and how public donations fund vital kit and equipment. View photos
A long-time supporter, Norman said the RNLI’s work means a lot in a coastal city like Brighton, recalling how he once had to call them when his children got into trouble at sea. He praised both the crews and the behind-the-scenes teams as “heroes” and thanked everyone who donated. RNLI Community Manager Charlotte Magan said they were thrilled to have someone so connected to the city helping raise awareness and thanked Norman and the public for their generosity.
