What’s the Scoop
New £150m cancer centre at the Royal Sussex gets the green light
🏥 Brighton is set to welcome a new five-storey cancer centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, with planning permission recently granted. This exciting development is aimed at better serving the growing number of cancer patients in Sussex.
The University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced that the new centre will expand existing services significantly. It will feature more inpatient beds, all in single en-suite rooms, and a dedicated acute cancer assessment unit. This means many patients can be treated as outpatients, easing the burden on the A&E department.
Dr. Sarah Westwell, a leading figure in cancer care at the trust, celebrated the news as "truly momentous" for patients, their families, and staff. This new centre marks a crucial step toward improving care and comfort for those affected by cancer.
Beside the Sea exhibition kicks off in Brighton
📸 The vibrant "Beside the Sea" gallery kicked off last Saturday with a splash, featuring the whimsical photographic masterpieces of Martin Parr and JJ Waller. Art enthusiasts and curious souls alike can revel in the unique displays that brighten up three captivating venues across the city, including the dynamic Hove Museum of Creativity and the breezy lower esplanade. There's an airy magic in the mix as the images weave stories of seaside charm and local culture, inviting passersby to pause and ponder.
Adding a cheeky twist to this artistic event, 65 of these mesmerizing photographs will take an unusual rooftop stage on bus shelters, designed to tickle the fancies of those perched on the top deck of a double-decker bus. This elevated exhibit offers an exclusive bird's-eye view until June 1, transforming a daily commute into a quirky visual odyssey. Who knew that catching a bus could become a journey into an open-air art gallery?
