🍿 National Cinema Weekend 2026 is coming to Picturehouse Sat 5th - Sun 6th September, meaning you can snag £4 tickets to a cornucopia of new and old films. 🚢 The world's last seagoing paddle steamer is making a triumphant comeback to Newhaven after a decades-long absence. The Waverley, celebrating its 80th birthday this October, will sail from the south coast later this month, with its first Newhaven departure since the 1980s scheduled for 22nd September.

Passengers can cruise to the Isle of Wight's Ryde or the scenic Needles. Captain Bruce Clark promises something special: the authentic steamship experience complete with clanging telegraphs, engine room visits, and those iconic turning paddles. The south coast gets a full three-week program of daytime and evening cruises along the Jurassic Coast and Solent. I🛟 t's been quite the scorcher of a summer for RNLI lifeguards in Brighton & Hove, who wrap up their peak season this Sunday, 6 September. Facing record-breaking heat and unprecedented crowds, the team kept hundreds of thousands of beachgoers safe—handling rescues, first aid, reuniting lost kids with parents, and running school safety sessions. Regional Lead Ed Stevens called it one of the busiest seasons in the service's history, praising the team's resilience and professionalism.

As lifeguards head off for winter, the RNLI wants beach lovers to stay savvy: pick lifeguarded beaches when you can, and remember "Float to Live"—tilt your head back, relax, and paddle gently until you catch your breath. Spot someone struggling? Remember "Phone, Float, Throw"—call 999, tell them to float, chuck something buoyant. Lifeboats still patrol 24/7 year-round. Thanks to all the lifeguards who have kept a watchful eye on us this summer at the beach in Brighton.
