What’s the Scoop

Hove Restaurant Mare Receives Michelin Star

⭐️ Hove restaurant Maré has been awarded Brighton and Hove’s first Michelin star since the two towns combined in 1997, and the area’s first in nearly 50 years. Opened last year by chef-patron Rafael Cagali, the Brazilian-Italian restaurant received the honour at a ceremony in Dublin. Michelin praised its global flavours and community feel, with Cagali calling the recognition a proud moment for the entire team. 🍽️

Local Communities at Heart of New Outdoor Events Strategy

🎸 Brighton & Hove hosts a busy year-round outdoor events programme that attracts thousands of visitors and boosts the local economy. Major events such as Brighton Marathon, Pride and the Women’s Rugby World Cup help generate more than £120 million annually and strengthen the city’s national and international reputation. With demand for events growing, the council must balance economic benefits with environmental protection and residents’ quality of life.

To guide this, a new five-year Outdoor Events Strategy has been launched, focusing on sustainability, inclusion, accessibility and community involvement. The strategy aims to support diverse events, protect natural spaces, encourage healthy lifestyles and ensure events benefit both residents and visitors while keeping Brighton & Hove an attractive destination for organisers. £30,000 Golden Darts made in Brighton

🎯 BetMGM expected only two or three nine-dart finishes during the 2025 Premier League Darts season, but a record number were achieved, prompting unexpected pressure on the sponsor. Players who hit a perfect leg receive a bespoke set of golden darts worth £30,000, crafted by Brighton-based goldsmiths Humphrey and Hawkins.

The season began dramatically in Brighton, where Luke Humphries and Rob Cross both hit nine-darters in one night back in March 2025, followed by further perfect legs from Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price. BetMGM’s Dan Towse admitted there was “a bit of panic” as the total exceeded predictions. With standards rising, he says future seasons could see even more. Despite ideas such as adding diamonds, the design remains unchanged for 2026.

Local Biz

Beer Belly Micropub & bottleshop - 15 Victoria Terrace, Brighton

Opened towards the end of December last year, Harry & Robin’s micropub & bottleshop is proving a great success with local yokels. Pop on down for a sparkling sour or sumptuous stout and say hi to one of the team (and Freda).
