LGBT+ History Month Celebrated in the UK

🏳️‍🌈 February marks LGBTQ+ History Month in the UK, celebrated in Brighton & Hove with rainbow flags, events, and exhibitions honouring LGBTQ+ lives and contributions. This year’s theme, Science and Innovation, highlights the vital role LGBTQ+ people have played in shaping fields such as medicine, engineering, chemistry, and biotechnology, while also acknowledging the historical misuse of science to marginalise LGBTQ+ identities.

The campaign spotlights five figures: Barbara Burford, Charles Beyer, Elke Mackenzie, Jemma Redmond, and Robert Boyle. Alongside this, the city hosts a rich programme of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and social events exploring gender, identity, queer history, and community resilience. Councillor Mitchie Alexander emphasises the importance of visibility, diversity, and learning from LGBTQ+ pioneers whose work continues to benefit society today. 👏

Test Flights Begin at Brighton Helipad

🚁 Test flights are set to begin for the Royal Sussex County Hospital helipad, eight years after work started. The £15.5m project, originally due to open in 2019, was delayed by structural safety issues and rising costs, including concerns that helicopter downdraft could dislodge cladding.

Once operational, it is expected to handle up to 70 flights a year, operating daily between 07:00 and 19:00, and reduce transfer times for critically ill patients who currently land in East Brighton Park. The helipad is expected to cost over £452,000 a year to run, with test flights likely to begin in early March, weather permitting.🤞

Brighton & Hove Mental Health Beach Bus

🚌 The Brighton and Hove Beach Bus will tour the city on Thursday 5 February 2026 to mark Time to Talk Day, promoting open conversations about mental health and reducing stigma. Run in partnership with Mind in Brighton and Hove and Brighton and Hove Buses, the bus will stop in Whitehawk, Churchill Square and Hove Town Hall.

It will offer free wellbeing resources, conversation starters and teabags to encourage discussion. Organisers say the initiative helps bring mental health conversations into the heart of local communities and reminds people that mental health affects everyone. More Info Here.
