Good morning, Brighton. It was World Chocolate Day 🍫 yesterday if you didn’t know and needed an excuse to have a nibble. However don’t overdo it as apparently the average Brit consumes 7560 chocolate bars in their life giving Augustus Gloop a run for his money. Staggering. What’s the Scoop

King’s Road arches get £22m boost

🧱 Brighton's beloved King's Road seafront is in for some serious TLC! The Department for Transport has splashed out over £22 million to rescue the historic Victorian arches located beneath the A259, with the council throwing in another £3.9 million for good measure. Work kicks off this summer on phases 4 and 5, shoring up the century-old structures that have been quietly holding up one of the city's busiest routes. Learn abut the arch redevelopment plans.

The good news? Local businesses will get snazzy new digs, and the arches should soldier on for another century. The slightly less good news? The beloved paddling pool will close during construction—but the council promises a shiny new version once the dust settles. Meanwhile, the playground and loos will also temporarily vanish. All part of the grand plan to keep Brighton's iconic seafront thriving for generations to come. So some great news overall but there’s sure to be a few grumbles about the closed facilities.

Brighton’s first English sparkling wine bar

🍷 Fancy a glass of award-winning English sparkling wine without the trek to the vineyards? Sussex's celebrated Roebuck Estates has opened a chic pop-up wine bar at the Royal Pavilion Rooms for July and August. Sip their acclaimed vintages on a terrace overlooking the iconic Royal Pavilion—pretty much as good as it gets for a summer drink in Brighton. Sample their entire Classic Collection by the glass or bottle, or try curated tasting flights to explore the nuances.

Bonus: throughout the summer, they're hosting exclusive food pairing events with local restaurants and producers. It's the perfect spot for post-Lanes drinks, date nights, or simply treating yourself to some quality English fizz. Roebuck X Royal Pavillion Partnership. The Roebuck Sparkling Wine Bar will be open Wednesday to Sunday, from midday until 9pm, with later closing times at weekends.

Brighton jeweller turns pet fur into keepsakes

🐶 Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy, and one Brighton family business is helping owners hold onto precious memories in a rather touching way. Fur & Forever creates handmade jewellery—rings, necklaces, and more—using pet fur, hair, whiskers, or cremation ashes. Founded by Jack and Mel Lockyer after struggling to find quality memorial pieces themselves, the studio now crafts keepsakes for pet lovers across the UK and beyond, treating each strand of fur with utmost care and returning any unused material to customers.

In timely support, they've launched a free Pet Loss Support Hub offering practical guidance for grieving owners, including advice on euthanasia guilt and helping children cope. Recent research shows pet loss can be genuinely devastating — 21% of people who've lost both a pet and a person rated their pet's death as more distressing. It's heartfelt business done right.
