What’s the Scoop
Seafront basketball courts reopening
🏀 Brighton & Hove seafront's basketball court reopens this weekend after a striking overhaul, showcasing vibrant pink and blue designs by Sam Sure. Upgraded with new hoops, backboards, and a larger playing surface, the court has been expanded by 4 meters in length and 2 meters in width.
The official launch on May 31 will feature free coaching, games, and giveaways. Collaboration with Foot Locker and Hoopsfix Foundation aims to boost participation and host regular tournaments. Community-driven improvements reflect local demand, enhancing a beloved public facility for basketball enthusiasts of all ages.
Great to see more rejuvenation of the seafront taking place and sporting opportunities after the opening of the skate park and pump track.
Withdean swimming pool plans unveiled
🏊 Plans for a new 5-lane, 25m swimming pool at Withdean Sports Complex have been unveiled by ReCreation, leading a professional design team.
The community is invited to shape the design via an online survey on Your Voice, available until 27 June, and during drop-in sessions on 3, 11, and 12 June. Feedback will influence the planning application, set for submission this summer. The council will discuss plans and budget in July, with potential construction starting in early 2026. Councillor Alan Robins highlights the project's importance for providing accessible swimming facilities for all.
As someone who lives only a 10mins cycle from the sports complex, this is super exciting, even if it may be a few years away. Have your say on the official survey
