🎓 BHCC councillors are gearing up to discuss an ambitious three-year plan this Thursday to bolster support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The SEND Sufficiency Plan 2026-2029 is basically the council's roadmap for expanding specialist education places—think of it as building better classrooms and support systems tailored to kids who need extra help.

Currently, just over a quarter of the city's pupils have identified SEND, with about 6.4% requiring an Education, Health and Care Plan. The plan proposes new specialist bases, beefed-up mainstream school support, and a revamp of alternative provision across the city.

Developed in partnership with schools, parents, and carers, Councillor Emma Daniel reckons this could be the ticket to creating a fairer, more inclusive education system. National policy is steering towards early intervention and mainstream inclusion too, so Brighton's getting ahead of the curve. Read full BHCC Report
