What’s the Scoop
Brighton & Hove Cracks Down on Reckless Drivers
Brighton & Hove Council is launching a six-week public consultation on enforcement cameras at five accident hotspots, tackling dangerous driving and improving road safety across the city. The new Moving Traffic Enforcement powers—granted by the Department for Transport—will monitor violations like illegal turns and one-way breaches at locations including Carden Avenue, London Road, Ditchling Road, West Street, and Francis Street. Drivers caught breaking restrictions face a £70 penalty (or £35 within 21 days), with a generous six-month warning period before fines kick in.
The council's also piloting enforcement on three School Streets from September which is much needed to reduce the morning congestion. Residents, businesses, and road users are invited to share their views—safety first, it seems! Have your say

Staying safe in the water

🛟 Although we generally focus on the positive news in Brighton in the Scoop, this weeks loss of three lives highlighted once again the danger the sea. For the safety of all beachgoers, here are a few points to remember. Be mindful when entering the sea, you can still get a chill after long periods in the water and result in the loss of feeling of you extremities. At high tide there is a steep shelf which can mean you’re out of your depth within a couple of meters. Again at high tide if the conditions are rough, a heavy shore dump can occur which easily knocks you off your feet and the resultant current can wash you along and out to sea. If in doubt, stay out. Hoosier to play Brighton in Oct
🎸 The Hoosiers are rolling into Chalk on Friday 16 October as part of their autumn UK tour, bringing the full band experience back to Brighton. After two decades of infectious indie-pop hooks and sharp lyricism, these lads are proving they're far from a nostalgia act. Fresh off their new album Compassion and a record store acoustic run, expect high-octane energy, singalong choruses, and plenty of hands-in-the-air moments. Whether you've been with them since "Goodbye Mr A" or you're just discovering them now, this looks like the perfect cure for post-summer blues—packed with dynamic performances and genuine fan connection.
