Good morning, Brighton. Let’s be British about this and start with the weather. A milder spell the next couple of days with some sunshine due on Tuesday. Hopefully it’ll stay dry for tonight when Bournemouth take on The Albion

What’s the Scoop
Seafront Development Board Opens Discussions
⛱️ Brighton & Hove’s Seafront Development Board is inviting residents, workers and visitors to an informal discussion about how the seafront is used now and how it could develop in the future. The free session will be chaired by Lord Bassam with board members sharing current and planned projects and gathering ideas and priorities from the public. It’s the start of an ongoing conversation, with further engagement and an online survey to help shape a shared long-term vision for a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable seafront. It’s on 31st Jan @ The Brighton Centre. Book a spot here.
Onions Bringing Tears to Beachgoers
🧅 Onions and other odd items have been washing up on Brighton and Sussex beaches after shipping containers broke loose offshore, spilling their cargo into the sea. Brighton resident and beach-clean organiser Coral Evans first spotted dust masks, plastic gloves and cans of dried milk, then returned to find “hundreds of thousands” of onions scattered along the shore.
Other debris includes sweet potatoes, coffee cup lids, beer cans and large fragments of container insulation, none of which are good for our beautiful coastline. Councils along the Sussex coast are coordinating clean‑ups; Brighton and Hove city council collected 1.9 tonnes of waste in one day, with storms like Goretti worsening the problem the weekend before last. Fingers crossed a large scale clean-up can catch the majority of the rubbish. More info & advice from BHCC on the issue.
Pug Cafe Opening its Paws to Customers
🐶 CuppaPug, a “pug café” where visitors can enjoy food and drink while meeting rescue pugs, is set to open a new branch at Brighton Marina, its sixth venue in the UK and US. A soft launch is planned for February 14, with the official opening date to follow. The café focuses on pug welfare, enforcing house rules to keep dogs and people safe, and works with local pug charities to rehome many of the dogs guests meet there.
Through its CuppaPug Rescue initiative, the company provides rehabilitation, medical care, fostering and adoption for vulnerable pugs. Ten resident pugs – including Pearl, Peaches, Blossom and Cookie – will live at the Brighton café, and bookings for the soft launch can be made online.
