Good morning, Brighton. Football and chicken wings… in one day? Someone must be pulling my leg… or wing. Who knows? But don’t worry, if neither of these delights float your boat then there’s plenty going in Bristelmestune (circa 1086) the next couple of days to get your teeth into. I’ll stop with the puns.
In today’s Brighton Scoop:
International Chicken Wing Day
Drones set to be banned from B&H parks
Freedom of the City nominations still open

What’s the Scoop
International Chicken Wing Day
🍗 Now even though Americans have been celebrating this for decades, International Chicken Wing Day has made its way this side of the pond in recent years. With the footie this evening, there couldn’t be a better day to get yourself some finger linkin’ good chicken before or after the game. Redditters came up with their favourite spots across the city so pop out to your local later and indulge in some buffalo wings. Don’t chicken out!

Lost Boys @ The Joker - Buffalo Thuddbutt
Soju - Sweet Soy Chicken Wings
Kogi - Ganyang Chicken Ring
Bok Shop - Dr Drizzle
Boombird - Sriracha Wings
Tog G Wings - Chicken 65 wings
Drones set to be banned from B&H parks

🤖 Brighton & Hove is looking to tighten the rules on how we use our public spaces, and they’ve got a list of proposed tweaks hitting the consultation stage.
The big headline? Drones could soon be officially grounded in all council parks and public areas to keep our playgrounds safe and annoyance-free. But that’s not all—the council is also looking at cracking down on "holiday" campers who treat our parks like free campsites, as well as extending existing bans on sky lanterns, balloon releases, and pesky disposable barbecues. There’s even talk of stricter rules for keeping our canine companions on leads in certain spots.
It’s all about keeping our open spaces pleasant for everyone. If you’ve got thoughts on the matter, the council wants to hear from you—just make sure to have your say before the consultation closes on 7 August! Read BBC article
Freedom of the city nominations still open
🔑 Do you know someone in Brighton & Hove who is an absolute legend? If so, now is your chance to shout it from the rooftops! The council is currently hunting for nominations for the "Freedom of the City"—the ultimate pat on the back for those making a real difference in our community.
Whether it’s a tireless charity worker or a local hero who has dedicated their life to the city, the council wants to hear your stories. Past winners include everyone from football icons to dedicated public servants, so the bar is high but entirely worth it.
You’ve got until Sunday, 19 July 2026, to get your nominations in. If you have an unsung hero in mind, don’t wait around—head over to the council’s website and let them know who deserves this fancy bit of civic glory! - Head to BHCC to Nominate
