Good morning, Brighton. How’re we all doing today? It’s been a blissful last couple of days in town so I hope you moseyed out to enjoy it, however briefly. The final weekend of August may be knocking at the door but at least it’s a bank holiday, so get planning and make the most of our final long weekend until CHRISTMAS… gulp.

What’s the Scoop

The Level play area set for makeover

🛝 The Level's beloved play area is getting a £300,000 facelift starting September 7th. The popular city playground will transform into a modern adventure hub, upgrading the 2012 play equipment

The new design, shaped by community feedback, promises something for everyone: toddlers get climbing and sensory fun, while older kids can tackle a towering ninja warrior ramp and tube-slide. Inclusivity takes centre stage with wheelchair-accessible swings and wider pathways.

Built from weather-resistant steel and durable laminate, the refreshed playground features improved sight-lines and new safety surfacing. This does however mean saying goodbye to the sandpits. It’s drawn mixed opinions online with comments regarding the lack of provision for older kids and the move away from natural materials like wood, rope & sand. While work continues, families can explore alternative parks nearby or simply enjoy the rest of the park. Residents can find out more and view the plans at a Community Engagement Event on 27th August between 3-6pm at the Level. Read More about the development and drop-in.

Brighton RNLI's Call to the Waves

🛟 Brighton RNLI is on the hunt for six volunteer lifeboat crew and two launch authorities to join their life-saving mission. With 65 callouts last year and rising numbers of swimmers, paddleboarders, and kayakers needing rescue, they're keen to bolster the team.

Crew applicants need to be reliable team players with general fitness who can live or work within 15 minutes of Brighton Marina. Launch authorities require nerves of steel, living within 30 minutes of the station. Vacancy details & application

Both roles demand quick responses when the pager sounds, regular training, and dedication to keeping equipment battle-ready. Full training is provided. If you fancy swapping the sofa for the sea and genuinely want to help, applications close October 25th. Brighton RNLI's waiting!

Brighton Dome's Vocal Extravaganza

🎤 Brighton Dome's Autumn 2026 season is brimming with classical voice highlights. Katherine Jenkins kicks things off October 6th, celebrating 25 glorious years in music. November brings festive cheer with the Purcell Singers and harpist Eleanor Medcalfe's Christmas program (29th).

December's a proper vocal feast: Elizabeth Watts and friends tackle Vaughan Williams' Antarctic Symphony (6th), Brighton Gay Men's Chorus serve up murder and merriment (12th), and Juliette Pochin joins the Brighton Festival Chorus and Royal Philharmonic for their annual Christmas concert under James Morgan's baton (13th).

Wrapping up the season, the Choir with No Name Brighton returns December 15th—their annual singalong supporting people impacted by homelessness. Pure festive magic all round! Full autumn line-up at The Dome
