What’s the Scoop
Brighton Gets Its First Documentary Film Club
🎥 Brighton & Hove has officially joined the doc-loving elite. TARA Films and POST have just launched the Brighton & Hove Doc Club, a brand-new monthly documentary screening series—the first of its kind in the city.
The inaugural season, Photography Meets Film, kicks off September 24th with six features exploring the intersection of still and moving images. Opening night features Shooting the Mafia, Kim Longinotto's gripping portrait of Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia's decades documenting Palermo's criminal underworld. Director Longinotto will stick around for a post-screening chat.
Running through until February 2027 at POST in Hove, this venture fills a genuine cultural gap. As POST's founders note, while Brighton's appetite for arts is legendary, the venues to experience them? Not so much. Consider this problem deliciously solved. View the full documentary schedule
North Laine Interactive Artist Showcase
🎸 SixtySix Productions—14-year veterans of vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and books—have gone high-tech with an interactive art installation celebrating artists and brands. Located at 13 Gardner Street in North Laine, the display combines artistic mediums with technology, responding dynamically to passersby and engaged visitors alike.
Scan the QR code to activate and control the installation, live until early September. With roughly half a million monthly foot traffic, this prime spot offers serious exposure for emerging talent.
Fancy a takeover? SixtySix Productions invites artists and brands to pitch their own productions. Contact them at [email protected]. It's community spirit meets cutting-edge engagement—exactly what Brighton does best.
Bank Holiday Beach Clean on Sunday
🏖️ Round six of Leave No Trace Brighton's seasonal beach cleans arrives Sunday 30th August, 9:30–11:30am at the beach behind Sea Lanes. All equipment provided; just show up (preferably with a mate or two).
Attend a clean, earn a raffle entry to win a year's Sea Lanes swim membership. But here's the cherry on top: Dr Marc Abraham OBE—Brighton-based vet, author, and animal welfare champion—is hosting a special children's story-time (age 3+) afterwards, reading from his debut picture book Leon's Reef. It's an underwater adventure celebrating ocean life, exploring marine threats, and championing kindness and teamwork.
Storytime's free but ticketed. Book here to confirm your little ocean explorers' spots. Perfect finish to the season!
