Good morning, Brighton. We’re starting the day with a sea mist and a sore head thanks to Mad Dog Brewery and the Fiddlers Elbow last night. Hopefully both of these will pass.
Anyway, in today’s Brighton Scoop:

What’s the Scoop
Brighton Basks in the Sun
😎 With temperatures hitting 15 degrees last Wednesday, Brighton Beach had that summer feel again, tempting people down to the water. It was glorious right through to sunset with many trying to get an early glimpse of the 6 planet alignment an hour or so after the sun went down.
Anyway it was great to see people relaxing on the beach again and gives us a glimmer or hope that this summer will match last years epic run of sun. Unfortunately catching sight of the planets tonight (28th) when its at its clearest in unlikely as the low cloud looks set for the day so you’ll have to wait until October 2028 for the next planetary parade. 🪐
Women’s Rugby World Cup Brings in £28m Boost
🏉 Brighton & Hove’s stint as a Women’s Rugby World Cup host has paid off handsomely, with a £28.5m boost to the local economy and packed crowds at the Community Stadium, 62% of them local residents. The tournament filled hotels (to the tune of £5.4m), lifted trade for shops and restaurants, and helped cement the city’s reputation as a world-class sporting venue. It also inspired thousands of women and girls to try rugby through ‘Strive 25’ funded events and school and club activities.
A busy Fan Zone, city-wide partnerships, and playful touches like “Brighton Breach” on the seafront all added to the party. In short: big tackles, big crowds, and an even bigger legacy for women’s sport in the city.
Madeira Lift Moves to Next Level
🚡 Work on restoring Madeira Terrace is moving up a level – literally. A new fully accessible lift linking Marina Parade to Madeira Drive is well underway, with scaffolding up and more than 20,000 bricks about to be laid to form its outer shell.
The first large sections of the cast-iron terrace have also returned from a specialist foundry, where tests confirmed much of the original ironwork can be safely repaired and reused – a win for both heritage and the environment.
With this clearer picture, the council now expects phase one of the restoration to be completed this coming winter, bringing Madeira Terrace a big step closer to its former glory. Fab news for those with pushchairs and mobility issues to get down to the Yellowave / Sea Lanes end of the terrace.🤙
