What’s the Scoop
Record Numbers for Brighton Half Marathon
🏃♀️ More soggy than sunny, but Brighton turned out in record numbers for the 36th Altra Brighton Half Marathon. Over 10,000 runners took part across the weekend, with wheelchair and main races starting on Sunday, launched by Olly Alexander. The event, owned by local HIV charity the Sussex Beacon, is its biggest annual fundraiser, with over 800 Team Beacon runners raising more than £200,000 this year and around £1 million typically going to charities overall.
Elite winners included Seyfu Jamaal and Maisie Trafford in the main races and Josh Hickinbottom and Claudia Burrough in the wheelchair races, with plenty of fancy dress adding to the seaside chaos. Well done all for taking park this year! Full Results
Peter Capaldi Jumping into The Thick of It in Brighton
🎤 Peter Capaldi is set to embark on his first ever live music tour, including a show at Brighton’s Concorde 2 on Thursday, March 5, as part of a two-week UK run. Best known for Doctor Who and The Thick of It, Capaldi has revived his early passion for music, having released two albums of original songs: St. Christopher (2021) and Sweet Illusions (2023).
Originally part of Glasgow’s punk scene before turning to acting, he says he wants to test himself by performing live again after many years. Critics have praised his return to music, with The Times calling his work “a triumph” and comparing it to Leonard Cohen and David Bowie. His live shows are expected to feature dark synths, fuzzy guitars and noir romanticism, backed by a band of young musicians. Book Tickets
BRAVO 2026 Restaurant Awards Voting Underway
👨🏻🍳 Voting is now open for the 10th annual BRAVOs, Brighton’s biggest food and drink awards, running from 10 February to 10 March 2026, with winners announced on 31 March.
This year’s theme is “Choose Local,” encouraging the public to support independent restaurants, pubs and cafes across Brighton, Hove and Sussex. Voters can explore 18 categories, including the new Best Sweets and Treats, celebrating everything from casual cafés to standout dining spots. Every vote helps champion the local hospitality scene and sustain Brighton’s independent spirit. Cleveland Arms over in Fiveways has got my vote for Best Sunday Lunch. Am I allowed to say that?? Too late. Have Your Vote
