Good morning, Brighton… The World Cup is here with the first match kicking off in Mexico tomorrow (venues showing games). We’re excited here but if you couldn’t give a tinker’s damn about it, don’t fret. We’ll still be delivering everything Brighton for the duration of the tournament and there’s more events than you can shake a stick at coming up the next couple of months.

In today’s Brighton Scoop:

  • Pop-up offers free space to businesses

  • A seafront fit for the future

  • £240k grant for Madeira Terrace restoration

  • Burger & Beyond coming to Brighton

- Phil Reynolds

What’s the Scoop

🛒 Attention small business owners - EDF and Enterprise Nation just handed you a golden ticket. A free two-week pop-up shop in Brighton's Duke's Lane this summer lets you test retail without committing to a long term lease.

It's June 29 to July 26, 2026, folks. Perfect for first-timers wanting to dip their toes in physical retail, explore new markets, or just see if anyone actually wants to buy your stuff in person. As small business owners we appreciate initiatives that help entrepreneurs take calculated risks. Head to Powering Local Businesses to apply. No guts, no glory—but at least this time, no massive overhead either.

A seafront fit for the future

🍦 Brighton's rolling out a shiny new roadmap for its 13-kilometre seafront—basically a "we've got big dreams" document that doesn't tell anyone exactly what's happening, but points everyone in the same direction. The vision: vibrant, accessible and sustainable; that enhances tourism, supports local businesses and celebrates the city’s rich heritage.

They're tackling ageing infrastructure, climate change impacts, and keeping the heritage vibe alive while modernising things. Hove's getting leisure centres, the east side's getting nature walks, and Black Rock might finally get something interesting—maybe a gallery or cultural venue. The real trick? Getting investors, communities, and partners on the same page. Herding the proverbial cats will be the job if the new Seafront Development Board. It’s an exciting vision if it can come together and please everyone… Download BHCC seafront prospectus to get a full overview of the plan.

£240k grant for Madeira Terrace restoration

🏗️ Brighton's iconic Madeira Terrace just got another £240,000 grant from Historic England - bringing their total support to nearly £1 million. They're painstakingly repairing hundreds of cast iron components instead of replacing them, which sounds tedious but saves eight tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of new iron. It's basically the environmental equivalent of mending your socks instead of buying new ones.

The first sections are back from the foundry, a new lift's taking shape, and they're assembling over 20,000 bricks. Brighton's Victorian seafront treasure is getting the TLC it deserves, one meticulously tested cast iron piece at a time. View all the latest updates from the restoration project.

Burger & Beyond Opening July - First branch outside of London

Burger & Beyond—the cult burger joint that's been making Londoners happy since 2015— is finally breaking out of the capital this summer. The Brighton location opens in July, just steps from the seafront, and it's basically a homecoming for the founders who've got family ties there. Beyond their legendary dry-aged beef patties, they're now slinging British steaks and cocktails too. Three London restaurants, Manchester Counter concepts, and counting.
