What’s the Scoop
Climbing wall plans approved

🧗🏼♂️ A new climbing wall at Brighton's Edward Street Quarter has been approved by BHCC's Planning Committee, with a condition banning amplified music audible outside the building, following noise concerns from neighbours.
The development converts previously vacant commercial space in the former Amex House site, which has struggled to attract office tenants since opening. Eight of ten committee members backed the music restriction, though two Labour councillors argued the surrounding area — near busy bus routes and St James's Street's night-time economy — already generates significant noise.
Some councillors noted climbing itself can be noisy, while others raised concerns about vibrations from music affecting neighbouring properties. Much of the office space is occupied by Octopus Energy, NatWest, and Knights, but the remaining commercial units have sat empty for years.
1600 people let off some steam
🥵 More than 1,600 people attended Brighton’s first Sauna Festival, held on the seafront last weeken. Organised by the British Sauna Society, the event featured over 20 amazing mobile saunas, guided wellness rituals, live music curated by DJ Rob Da Bank, and traditional and modern sauna experiences. See photos.
Visitors enjoyed unique saunas ranging from horseboxes to a 25-seat “hot box.” The festival celebrated Brighton’s seaside wellness heritage and the growing popularity of saunas across the UK, with organisers calling the inaugural event a major success and planning its return next year. Keep an eye on the Brighton Sauna Festival website for future events.
Rail networks invest £300k in community initiatives
🚂 Southern and Thameslink are spending £300,000 on a rather novel idea: putting youth workers on trains.
Part of their 2026-27 'Your Station, Your Community' fund, the Brighton-focused "On The Tracks" project has received nearly £50,000 to deploy trained youth workers on services from antisocial behaviour hotspots into Brighton — as well as at the station itself on busy days when large numbers of young people descend on the city.
The results so far are promising. When the scheme launched on 22 May, workers were chatting to roughly one young person every two minutes on services between East Croydon and Brighton. A dedicated outreach bus near the station adds mentoring and welfare support on the ground.
The aim is simple: catch young people before they stumble into trouble, offer a helping hand, and refer them to support services where needed. 👍
